The Zapotec civilization was an indigenous, pre-Columbian civilization that today belongs to the Mexican state of Oaxaca where our Manos Zapotecas bags are handwoven and beautifully constructed by some of the finest artisans in the world.
One of our most striking bags, Colornation Turquoise Rust Southwestern Tote, features an ancient Zapotec diamond design in intense turquoise blue, on a rusty-russet backdrop. Artfully designed and woven by Rocio.
Says Rocio, “Weaving is a beautiful and noble work that allows me to care for my (2) kids and still fulfill my dream of being creative. It’s what I love to do,” she said.
Rocio is a true artist who loves the creativity of creating unique patterns and combining colors in new ways. She says that designing is her favorite part of the process and loves getting to see her idea become the final product.
“When I see a bag a designed I say, ‘Oh yes, that’s how I imagined it!’” she said with a bright smile, “It’s very cool.” Personally, I love having objects of beauty in my life that are created by happy people. Thank you Rocio! We love you!
