Ishmena walked the river bank, studying the reeds. They ran in graduated shades of rust to green and covered huge swaths from the river up the hillside.  She lingered over the willow's scent for several minutes. It was too captivating to rush by...and so she stood for a long while.  A Bluebird sang and was astonished when she called back in a voice it could understand. It tilted its head and looked at her. They both noticed the first of the season's Wild Iris, peeking from an outcropping of rocks, saying, "Hello!".
