Damascus is true, layered and rolled, and not the faux, etched variety. Damascus is a mixture of 1095HC and 15N20 nickel carbon ;that are heated together, then folded over and over to get the desired layers. The high carbon patterning turns dark gray, exposing the layers of new steel, called "Damascus". Only after you burn the sides of the blade with acid do you see the layers of the two steels. These are artisan crafted by a long line of expert Damascus Steel masters.
